Understanding Pass Statuses

Pass statuses show where each pass is in its lifecycle—from creation and distribution to user activation, removal, or expiration.

Pass statuses help you track both what actions your team has taken and how users have interacted with their passes. This guide explains each status, what triggers it, and how it fits into the user journey.

Pass Statuses and What They Mean

Issued
The pass has been created in your workspace and assigned a download link. This
status appears as soon as a unique pass ID is assigned.

Invited
The pass has been emailed to the user using our built-in “Send Pass Download Link” feature. This status only appears when using our platform’s email tool.

Note: If you distribute passes via your own system or the API, the pass will remain in Issued status and will not progress to Invited.

Active
The user has added the pass to their Apple or Google Wallet, with auto-updates and notifications enabled.

Deactivated
The pass is no longer reachable. This may happen if the user:
– Removed the pass from their wallet
– Turned off auto-updates or notifications (Apple only)

We use Deactivated to group these scenarios and help you track when a pass stops being reachable.

Voided
The pass has been invalidated by your team, either through the dashboard or via the API. This is useful for correcting bad data, cleaning up duplicates, or revoking access.

Voided passes cannot be reactivated. If the user needs access again, a new pass must be created and a fresh download link shared. For API-based voiding, see the Void Pass endpoint.

Expired
The pass has reached its expiration date (set by you) and is now inactive. It will no longer receive updates or push notifications. Like voided passes, expired passes cannot be reactivated. To restore access, issue a new pass.

Where to View Pass Statuses

You can view pass statuses directly in your Badge dashboard by navigating to the pass list for any template. From there, you can filter and sort by status to monitor activation rates, identify deactivated passes, or confirm which passes have been voided or expired.

Pass status is also available as a field in the API via the List Pass Statuses and Get Pass Detail endpoints, making it easy to sync status data into your CRM or reporting tools.

What Users See in Their Wallet

Apple Wallet
Voided or expired passes are moved to the “Expired Passes” section. They no longer appear in the main view and may appear grayed out or show inactive barcodes.

Google Wallet
Voided or expired passes may disappear or appear inactive. They will no longer receive updates or push notifications.

Why This Matters

Pass statuses help you:

  • Track progress from creation to activation

  • Understand when a pass is reachable by the user

  • Take action when a pass becomes inactive—like reissuing, voiding, or updating
